Reason for installing mechanical ventilation
A mechanical ventilation system continuously supplies fresh air to a building. It removes stale, humid air and draws in fresh outside air. This is particularly important in well-insulated buildings, as natural air circulation is often insufficient there. Especially in places where many people gather – such as in offices, schools or hospitality areas – constant ventilation is essential. Good ventilation is also extremely important in homes to ensure a comfortable living environment. Or how about places where large amounts of gases or hazardous substances are released, such as indoor car parks and industrial buildings?
In short: mechanical ventilation ensures a healthy indoor climate. Additionally, it prevents damp and mould spots and extends the lifespan of the building and its materials.

Types of mechanical ventilation systems
There are roughly two types of mechanical ventilation systems
Partially mechanical (hybrid)
Fresh outside air flows in naturally, for example through windows or vents. The stale air is simultaneously and mechanically extracted by a fan. A hybrid system is particularly suitable for buildings where there is sufficient natural supply of fresh air.Fully mechanical (balanced ventilation)
Both air supply and air extraction are regulated by fans. This is also referred to as balanced ventilation. Optionally, heat-recovery ventilation (HRV) can be used, in which the fresh air is preheated by the heat from the extracted air. Such a heat-recovery system therefore reduces the amount of heating required to maintain the indoor temperature. This makes the system extra sustainable.
Both types of ventilation systems can operate on demand thanks to sensors. These sensors measure, for example, the CO₂ or moisture content in the air and automatically adjust the ventilation accordingly, day and night. This is both sustainable and cost-effective.

We will, of course, start with an analysis of the current situation: is it about new-build or renovation? What are your wishes and requirements? And what are the building’s requirements in terms of capacity and regulations? Based on this, we calculate the ventilation requirements and create a design that fits seamlessly with your project.
Do you agree with the proposal? Then we will get started right away. We purchase the necessary products and plan the work in close consultation with you and any other parties involved. To minimise disruption, we will work outside working, school or visiting hours wherever possible. After installation, we ensure that everything is properly configured before we deliver the project. And of course, we are also happy to help you with system maintenance.

What is mechanical ventilation?
Mechanical ventilation automatically provides fresh air in a building. It expels stale air and draws in clean air. This is achieved (sometimes partially) with the aid of fans – hence the term ‘mechanical.’ Mechanical ventilation is indispensable, especially in well-insulated buildings, in places where many people gather, or in spaces where (industrial) processes take place. Without a suitable ventilation system, moisture, CO₂ and dust are not properly removed, which can lead to moisture problems and unhealthy air quality. This increases the risk of health problems and structural damage.
Is the installation of mechanical ventilation mandatory?
That depends on the situation. Mechanical ventilation is almost always mandatory in new construction projects. This is because these buildings are so well insulated that natural ventilation is insufficient. The specific laws and regulations governing this can be found in the 2012 Building Decree (now: Environment Buildings Decree (Bbl)) and NEN 1087. Are you dealing with an existing structure? Where is mechanical ventilation installed in the building?
A mechanical ventilation system consists of various components located in different places throughout the building. The ventilation unit is often placed on the roof, in a technical room or in the attic – in any case, out of sight. The fresh air supply points are usually located in rooms that are used intensively, such as living rooms, bedrooms, offices and classrooms. The extraction points are located precisely in areas where a lot of moisture and contamination occurs, such as bathrooms, toilets and kitchens. In some specific situations, other choices may be made.
