Prevent absenteeism and reduced productivity
Why is office ventilation important?
Office air quality is constantly under pressure: from breathing to dust particles and emissions from equipment, among other things. Without proper ventilation, CO2, dust and pollutants quickly build up. This can lead to unpleasant symptoms for your employees, such as fatigue, headaches and even respiratory illnesses. With the right ventilation system, you can prevent these and create a healthy, productive working environment where you and your team feel comfortable and perform at your best. Good ventilation and airflow in your offices is therefore an investment both in their well-being and in the success of your business.

Improved air quality and lower energy costs
The benefits of good ventilation in offices
Good ventilation also significantly improves air quality in an office environment. And that has many benefits. Clean air not only promotes a pleasant working environment, but also has a positive effect on your and your employees' health and comfort. The result? Reduced absenteeism, improved concentration and increased productivity. Modern, efficient systems can also help to reduce energy costs. All good reasons for investing in a high-quality ventilation system for your office.

Improving office air quality
Types of office ventilation systems
Which type of air treatment is most suitable for your office environment will depend mainly on the size of the premises. For a small office, balanced ventilation with heat recovery is often a good and sustainable choice. Mechanical extraction combined with natural air supply is also an option, but does not generally provide consistent air quality, and can lead to uncomfortable issues such as sudden cold draughts. In larger office buildings, an air treatment unit (ATU) is almost always the best choice because it has sufficient capacity to supply and extract large volumes of air efficiently. As well as making you more comfortable, an ATU also helps to reduce energy costs. Of course, we will be happy to advise you on the ventilation system best suited to your situation.

FAQs
How do I know if my office is poorly ventilated?
Odours, problems with humidity, health issues, allergic reactions and poor concentration are clear symptoms of unhealthy air quality. To safeguard the health of your employees and prevent damage to the building, equipment and materials, it is necessary to ventilate properly.
What are the legal requirements for office ventilation?
Under the 2012 Building Regulations, new-build office space must be ventilated at a minimum rate of 6.5 litres per second (L/s) per person, regardless of the type of work being carried out there. This equates to 23.4 cubic metres per hour (m3/h) per person. For meeting or conference rooms, the requirement is 4 L/s, or 14.4 m3/h. You also need to take into account the Working Conditions Act and ventilation rates. You can read more about ventilation in offices under the Building Regulations in our blog.
What does standard NEN 1087 say about ventilation?
Apart from the statutory rules in the Building Regulations (see: What are the legal requirements for office ventilation?), NEN 1087 provides technical guidelines for building ventilation. According to this standard, a new office building should be ventilated at a rate of at least 8 L/s per person, or 28.8 m3/h. The difference between the requirements in the Building Regulations, NEN 1087 and the Working Conditions Act can be confusing. We will be happy to help you determine which are the right requirements for your situation.
What is the recommended ventilation rate for an office?
For the ventilation of an office space, the ventilation rate is applied. This is a standard for airflow and indicates how many times the air in a room should be refreshed per hour. The volume of the airflow required in your office is not a fixed figure. It depends on several factors. Interduct will be happy to help you calculate the right airflow rate for your situation.
How often should ventilation systems be serviced?
Not only does the maintenance frequency vary by type of ventilation system, the type of maintenance also varies. So you should be prepared to: (1) change the filters - usually every six months - (2) carry out annual maintenance and (3) perhaps other regular checks. In addition, the level of contamination plays an important role in how frequently maintenance is needed. Feel free to ask us for advice.
Can a ventilation system cause noise nuisance?
Every ventilation system produces noise, but if this noise causes a nuisance, there is usually an underlying problem. For example, you might have a defective, incorrectly installed system, overdue for maintenance or outdated. Interduct will be happy to help you find the cause and resolve the noise issue, so that you and your team can work in peace again.
