ATU lifted
in one go
Project Kinderkunstmuseum
KiMu is a new children's museum in Amsterdam Noord, where children are viewed as artists in their own right. It is located near the Amsterdam Noord station in a corner of an existing building, which also houses shops, cafes and restaurants, companies and residences. The Kinderkunstmuseum Foundation is the client and Kapbouw is the construction and installation firm. VentKlima was enlisted to install the ventilation system.
The design and engineering came about in consultation with the client and architect. VentKlima also took care of the implementation and commissioning. "We were responsible for the entire process," says work planner Joris Mestebeld.
Air treatment unit lifted inside in one go
A single air treatment unit was installed in the Kinderkunstmuseum, which has a capacity of 4000 m3 per hour (SystemAir Topvex). It wasn’t installed on the roof, as is common when working with existing buildings, but in a technical room. Unique feature of the execution: “Usually, in a technical room, you’d build an ATU from various delivered components, but here it was lifted into the building in one go with a small crane, before the interior window frames had been fitted.
VentKlima has chosen not to use sensors with this air treatment unit, but has programmed it on a timer. “Since you never know exactly how many people will be inside, we chose to run the ventilation system constantly throughout the building,” says Joris. “So you’re not ventilating the wrong places at the wrong times.”
The power of collaboration
In addition to the ATU, VentKlima has installed square ductwork in the technical space, which was manufactured by Robé. This gradually transitions to round ductwork. These are supplied by VentTrade, along with the fittings and mounting materials. All the ductwork, the Armaflex insulation and the grilles are coloured — another unique feature of this project. The Kinderkunstmuseum is yet another example of close cooperation within Interduct's various segments. And the young artists and their visitors will be assured of a sustainable, healthy and comfortable indoor climate.
