Project Koninklijke Hondenbescherming
The Dog Shelter in Den Ham is no ordinary shelter. Here, elderly and frail dogs get the care they need, in a low-stimulation and green environment. The client, Koninklijke Hondenbescherming, sold an office building in The Hague to build new premises near the village in Twente, and to completely redesign the shelter according to the latest research. The project includes three shelters, plus a farm serving as an education centre. Hams & Jansen Construction was the contractor. Morrenhof-Jansen got involved as installer and in turn asked Interduct company VentKlima for the ventilation. In August, the shelter opened its doors in the presence of celebrities - and ambassadors - Heleen van Royen and Renate Gerschtanowitz.

Airsocks and visible pipes
The dogs lacked for nothing, but the ventilation requirements were still really geared towards the people working there. "For the animals, it's a nice touch," says VentKlima project manager Jordy Francken. In total, Interduct installed six air treatment units from Ventilair in the four buildings (four of the Komfovent Verso CF 1000 and two of the Komfovent Verso CF 1300). Each building has a technical room where the ATU is installed. Fresh air is drawn in via a duct through the façade, and expelled via a duct through the roof. The dogs' kennels each have their own extraction point. Duct diameters range from 125 to 315 mm.
One of the barns houses an in-house veterinary practice. Airsocks provide fresh air distribution there, rather than valves. "A very finely perforated textile hose," Jordy explains. "It looks nice and ensures that the air is distributed evenly within those areas." Much of the pipework is visible. "That has to be hung very precisely. We always want that, but when it's visible pipework, it has to be really good. For us techies, it is really nice when an installation remains visible."

The power of collaboration
VentKlima, working in collaboration with the installer and contractor, supplied the ventilation solution for the project, and was responsible for its implementation. The air ducts were supplied by VentTrade, a sister company of VentKlima, and the air treatment units and other parts were sourced from external suppliers. Together, we ensured a sustainable, healthy and comfortable indoor climate for the employees and four-legged residents of the Dog Shelter in Den Ham.
