The importance of good ventilation
Good ventilation in your home: not a luxury but a necessity
Homes are becoming increasingly well insulated these days. This makes good ventilation more important than ever. Why? Good ventilation in your home ensures constant healthy air quality and keeps moisture and mould out. This applies not only to new buildings, but also to existing homes: everyone deserves to live in a well-ventilated home. What’s more, a modern ventilation system saves money. Smart sensors continuously measure air quality and automatically adjust ventilation requirements based on this information. In short, good ventilation in your home is not a luxury but a requirement for a healthy indoor climate and optimal living comfort.

From advice to maintenance
How we work
Interduct offers a wide range of ventilation systems for homes – from mechanical ventilation to advanced heat recovery (HR) and hybrid systems. However, before we can determine which ventilation system is suitable for your project, we conduct a thorough investigation of the situation. Based on this, we recommend the most efficient and energy-efficient ventilation solution. Whether we are installing a new system in a new-build home or existing building, or replacing an outdated ventilation system, we always provide honest advice. But you can also engage our services for maintenance as well as for the production and delivery of ventilation products.

We comply with the standards
Engaging Interduct ensures you comply with the ventilation requirements for homes
Ventilation requirements for new-build homes have become significantly more stringent in recent years. New houses must comply with the guidelines described in the 2012 Building Decree (now: Environment Buildings Decree (Bbl)), and NEN 1087 describes the ventilation standards for each room in the house. But what about renovating existing homes? Then the ventilation requirements are somewhat more complex. But don’t worry, Interduct takes care of the ventilation project from start to finish. Also good to know: all our designs are assessed against the BENG standards and the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). This ensures that the system complies with applicable laws and regulations.

Frequently asked questions
What are the requirements and regulations for ventilation in homes?
Good ventilation is mandatory in new-build homes, precisely because these homes are increasingly well insulated. As a result, there is hardly any natural ventilation, making a good ventilation system essential for a healthy indoor climate. The specific laws and regulations are laid down in the 2012 Building Decree (now Environment Buildings Decree (Bbl)) and NEN 1087. The laws and regulations for existing homes are somewhat more complex. Find out more? Then don’t hesitate to contact us.
What types of mechanical ventilation systems for homes are available?
There are various types of mechanical ventilation systems for homes, including hybrid systems or balanced ventilation with heat recovery (HR). A heat-recovery system continuously removes stale air and supplies the home with fresh air. The heat from the extracted air is used to warm up the supply air. Hybrid ventilation works in a similar way, but there are a few important differences. Unlike balanced ventilation, the air supply occurs naturally, for example through grilles or window frames. Extraction is mechanically controlled. There is therefore no heat recovery, which means that this system saves less energy than a heat-recovery system. Nevertheless, hybrid ventilation may be the most suitable solution in some situations.
Curious to find out which system best suits your project? Then feel free to contact us. We're very good at partnering with you.
Is balanced ventilation possible in an existing home?
Yes, that is possible, although it often requires a bespoke solution. In existing buildings, the options are sometimes limited, which can make installing a new ventilation system complex. Interduct can assist with this. For business clients, we can take care of the entire process: from advice and design to installation and maintenance. We supply the necessary products through our wholesalers.
Are you a private individual? For ventilation products, we would like to refer you to our online shops Intovent and Ventilatieshop. You can then have the installation carried out by a specialist building services company in your area. Intovent is also the right place for maintenance and replacement of parts such as the heat-recovery unit and grilles. And did you know that you can do certain things yourself? Replacing filters, for example. You can easily order these via our online shops Tops filters, WTW-filtersOnline or Filterfabriek.
Is heat-recovery ventilation possible in an existing home?
Yes, installing a new heat-recovery ventilation system in an existing home is usually possible, but it requires a well-thought-out plan and the right expertise. Are you a business client, such as a contractor or a housing association? We can take care of the entire process for you: from design and delivery to installation – even in existing homes and buildings. Only require parts? Our wholesale companies Tops Luchtfilters, VentTrade, Air Systems 2000 and New Energy Technics (Belgium) offer a wide range of ventilation products and supplies.
As a private individual, you can order the necessary ventilation products via our online shops Intovent and Ventilatieshop. We supply the products, but do not take care of the installation. We recommend engaging a specialist building services company for the installation. Do you already have a heat-recovery system in your home? In that case, you can call on us to maintain and/or replace the existing unit, grilles and other components. You can also replace the filters yourself if necessary. You can easily order these via our online shops Tops filters, WTW-filtersOnline or Filterfabriek.
To what extent does ventilation contribute to making homes more sustainable?
Insulation is often the first step towards sustainability. And there is a reason for that: a well-insulated home receives a higher energy label. However, the more airtight the home, the less natural ventilation is possible. That is why mechanical ventilation is the solution for an optimal indoor climate. A ventilation system continuously refreshes the air and automatically removes polluted air. This is not only beneficial for your health, but also for the lifespan of your home, appliances, and furniture.
What’s more, ventilation systems with heat recovery (HR) contribute to making homes more sustainable. With such a system, the cold air supplied is heated by the warm air that is expelled. This means that less additional heating is required, which directly saves energy. Finally, there are ventilation systems that are controlled by smart sensors. These sensors ensure that ventilation only occurs when it is truly necessary. Sustainable and cost-effective.
What signs indicate poor ventilation?
Poor home ventilation can cause health problems for residents, such as headaches, fatigue, shortness of breath or respiratory problems. It can also lead to damp problems, resulting in mould spots, a musty smell and/or fogged-up windows. Are you unsure whether your home is properly ventilated? In that case, purchase an air-quality meter via the online shop at Intovent or VentTrade. This (small) device measures the amount of carbon dioxide in the room. Is there too much CO₂ in the air? In that case, the ventilation is probably inadequate and it would be wise to call in a ventilation specialist. This will prevent damage to the property and increase your living comfort
What will domestic ventilation cost for my project?
The costs for home ventilation vary per project and depend on several factors. Consider the size and capacity of the property or properties, the number of rooms that need to be ventilated, and the type of ventilation system. Would you like a cost estimate for your project? Then don’t hesitate to contact us. After a thorough analysis, you will receive a quotation from us, possibly together with the ventilation design.
In which parts of the home is ventilation mandatory?
Ventilation is mandatory in the kitchen, bathroom, toilet and other living spaces that are used intensively, such as the living room and bedroom(s). The function of ventilation can vary depending on the room and the situation:
- Kitchen: extracting moisture, grease and odours that arise during cooking.
- Bathroom: prevent damp and mould spots and fogged-up windows.
- Toilet: removal of moisture and unwanted odours.
- Living room and bedroom(s): extraction of CO₂, odours and moisture, among other things, and the supply of sufficient fresh air.
With a suitable system, you will ensure a sustainable, healthy, and comfortable indoor climate. Day and night.
