Church house

Commissioned by the Van Melick family, Interduct created an energy-efficient and healthy indoor climate in a centuries-old church house in Oijen. The challenge in this project was to strike the perfect balance between insulation, ventilation and retaining authenticity. Interduct was involved in the entire process; from advice to aftercare.

Protected monument

Church house project

The Reformed Church in Oijen, also known as the Napoleon Church, had been for sale for some time when the van Melick family stumbled upon this protected monument. This typical style church built in 1810 was just what they had been looking for. Despite renovations by the first residents, the insulation was far from ideal; in a harsh winter, they easily consumed 5,000 m3 of gas and there appeared to be a serious damp problem. "Room for improvement," thought the family. To make the little church more sustainable without architectural modifications, they engaged a heritage restorer and consultant. Through them, the family also got in contact with RenovAir because, due to their collaboration with the other Interduct companies, they could offer a total solution.

Holy house without a cross

In the meantime, the entire church house has been insulated and fitted with a high-quality heat exchanger system. Due to the large volume of the house and limited installation space - up in the "dormers" under the roof ridge - a Zehnder WHR 920 heat exchanger unit was chosen. This is automatically controlled by its humidity- and CO2-controlled sensors. If something changes in the air quality... then the intake and extracted air is automatically adjusted via the concealed insulated ventilation pipes. The living room, the largest room, is provided with an additional air supply. This creates a pleasant airflow throughout the room and helps to prevent mould. These modifications among others helped create an improved and more energy-efficient indoor climate, while retaining the original character of the building. Mission accomplished!

The power of collaboration

This great result comes from successful collaboration between our (consumer) client and several Interduct companies. First, RenovAir planned a site visit. Based on a thorough inspection, as well as listening carefully to the wishes and needs of the van Melick family, they were soon able to put forward a suitable action plan. This was followed by its implementation. While VentTrade handled the supply of the necessary materials and accessories, RenovAir handled the assembly and installation of the entire ventilation system. Not only that; even after installation, RenovAir remained involved in this project. They were responsible for aftercare and advised on future maintenance, including replacement of the filters every two years. This is where Tops WTW filters may also be involved. Together, we created a sustainable, healthy and comfortable indoor climate in the church house in Oijen.
