Klaverhof

Commissioned by BAM Renovatie Concepten and Vesteda, Interduct collaborated in making three residential buildings on the Klaverhof in Alphen aan den Rijn more sustainable. A unique feature of this project was the renovation of the ventilation system combined with the use of a gas-fired heat-pump. Interduct was involved in the entire process; from design to delivery.

Klaverhof project

At the Klaverhof, three residential buildings with a total of 85 flats and maisonettes are located in green surroundings, near main roads and shops. Despite a number of renovations and a pre-existing mechanical ventilation system, this 1975 building was not sufficiently future-proof. So BAM Renovatie Concepten and Vesteda needed an experienced partner who, in addition to carrying out renovation work, could help them decide how to install a gas-fired heat-pump. As an established partner, they chose to work once again with RenovAir.

Energy label upgraded from D to B

All 85 apartments have now been connected to the fully renovated, modified and cleaned ventilation system. At first glance, it may seem that little has changed; the air supply still arrives through grilles and the polluted air is removed mechanically. But things have indeed improved. Whereas previously all the air extraction was via roof fans, this is now no longer the case in two of the three residential buildings. A gas-fired heat-pump (reducer) is used here. This pump extracts heat from the air before blowing it outside. Heat is stored in a unit that is connected to a central heating boiler, and helps to heat the tap water. Ventilation in the third building is still done the "old" way. However, the roof fans have been completely renewed and adapted to the current sustainability requirements. Partly thanks to these measures 39,000 m3 of gas is saved annually and the residential building no longer has energy label D, but energy label B. That is good for the environment and for the residents.

The power of collaboration

Working and acting together is what we did in this project. Even before RenovAir started the renovation work, they entered into discussions with BAM Renovatie Concepten. This resulted in a plan of action for the installation of a gas-fired heat-pump combined with an updated ventilation system. After agreement from both clients, RenovAir placed the orders and quickly started dismantling the existing ventilation system. Meanwhile, VentTrade provided ductwork, accessories, valves, roof brackets and exhaust hoods and Robé handled the manufacture and supply of the plenum boxes. The assembly and installation of these components was in the hands of RenovAir, as were the cleaning of the ducts, re-calibration of the system and aftercare. This is how we created a sustainable, healthy and comfortable indoor climate in 85 apartments in Alphen aan den Rijn.
