First time with a centralbalanced
ventilation system

Portiekflats Nassaustraat project
A construction team led by BAM Wonen was making 130 tenement flats on Nassaustraat in Tilburg more sustainable. Right from the inspection, it became clear that a traditional balanced ventilation system would be difficult to install due to the limited space available. Ventilation with heat recovery was emphatically on WonenBreburg's wish-list. RenovAir, thanks to its close connections with manufacturers, knew about the most recent systems available, and suggested Zehnder's ComfoVar Aero. This system works with a central ventilation unit for multiple homes, with valves for air intake and extraction in each home. It is demand-driven, based on CO2 sensors located in the home.

"Drip" ventilation delivers just enough
The ventilation units in Tilburg are in the storeroom. Two units are linked to each group of three or four apartments that sit above each other, and they have a combined capacity of 700 m3 of air per hour. RenovAir installed new central intake and extraction ducts in the buildings, concealing them in a newly constructed shaft in a corner of the kitchen. Intake pipes - concealed above a suspended ceiling in the kitchen and hallway - blow a supply of fresh air into the bedrooms and living room.
The special feature of this system is the drip-shaped regulator in the valve. "The advantage of the drip shape is that you can control the volume very precisely," explains director Bart Wijers. But that is not the only thing: "If maintenance is needed, residents are not inconvenienced, because the mechanic no longer needs to enter their home," says project manager Nina Remmers. "Even replacing the filters is no longer the resident's responsibility." In short: the system offers all the benefits of ventilation with heat recovery, with minimal disturbance per dwelling.

The power of collaboration
In Tilburg, RenovAir signed up for the design, installation and set-up of the ventilation system. As a permanent partner, we worked with BAM Wonen as part of the construction team. All the companies in the construction team know each other and work using a lean methodology. "This allows the team to make an entire home more sustainable very efficiently within a just a few days," concludes Bart Wijers. By working together we created a healthy and comfortable indoor climate in the 130 tenement apartments in the Nassaustraat in Tilburg.
