Smart ventilation using the ISDE subsidy
What does the ISDE subsidy entail?
The ISDE is a national scheme run by the Dutch government that encourages home-owners to improve the energy performance of their homes. The subsidy applies to various sustainability measures in existing buildings, such as solar boilers, (hybrid) heat pumps, insulation, and connections to a district heating network. From 1 January 2026, ventilation will also be added. Incidentally, the ISDE is not only for private individuals, but also for business users, though different conditions apply to them.
Target groups and subsidy amounts
Unlike private individuals, Home Owner Associations (HOAs) will already be able to apply for an ISDE subsidy for ventilation in 2025. Specific conditions and subsidy amounts apply to this target group. By making the scheme available to private home-owners, it also becomes more financially attractive for them to make their homes more sustainable.
The (2026) subsidy amounts are as follows:
Private home-owners: € 400 per home
HOAs and housing associations: 30% of the invoice amount, up to a maximum of €1,200 per property.
Are you the tenant or landlord of the property? Unfortunately, you are not eligible for a ventilation subsidy. This is intended for owner-occupiers only.
Terms and conditions
Not all ventilation systems are eligible for ISDE subsidies; they must have EPRL registration and demonstrably contribute to energy savings and a healthy indoor climate. Furthermore, you are only eligible for the subsidy if you combine the ventilation with one or more insulation measures and have these installed by an approved party.
The following systems are eligible for subsidy:
Mechanical ventilation with at least two CO2 sensors (C4C systems)
This system must have a minimum capacity of more than 125 m³/h. A central CO2-controlled system monitors the air and automatically adjusts air extraction accordingly. This limits energy consumption.Balanced ventilation with heat recovery (D/E systems)
A centralised balanced ventilation system with heat recovery, a minimum capacity of 125 m³/h and a minimum efficiency of 85%. This system utilises the heat from exhaust air to warm the fresh air. This means that less additional heating is required.Decentralised ventilation with heat recovery
A decentralised system with a minimum flow rate of 80 m³/h and a minimum efficiency of 80%. This type of system must have a recuperative heat exchanger and simultaneous air supply and extraction. Peak stale air is removed quickly, while energy and heat loss are kept to a minimum.

Applying for an ISDE grant
It's very easy to apply for the ventilation subsidy on the RVO website. Please note that photographs, invoices, proof of payment, and any other important documents must be provided. The fitter must also state the correct reporting code on the invoice – these will be announced at a later date. Ensure that the application is submitted within the specified time limit:
Private home-owners: within 24 months of installation.
HOAs and housing associations: before commencing work – an installation document is mandatory.
The ISDE subsidy can only be applied for once per property.
Why opt for mechanical ventilation?
We breathe in thousands of times a day, but we rarely think about the quality of the air we are breathing. We take fresh air for granted – especially indoors. But is it as fresh as we think? Unfortunately, research shows something different. Insufficient ventilation causes (harmful) substances and moisture to accumulate unnoticed. This not only affects our comfort and well-being, but also energy consumption and the lifespan of the building and our possessions.
The ISDE subsidy makes the transition to mechanical ventilation easier. This allows even more residents to enjoy an optimal indoor climate, and together we contribute to a cleaner, greener and more sustainable world. Installing ventilation (or having it installed)?
