We breathe in thousands of times every day, but we rarely think about the quality of the air we breathe. Indoors, in particular, the air is often less clean than we think. That is why every year, on November 8, we take a moment to reflect on the importance of clean air and thank everyone who is committed to this cause. This year's theme is "Collaborate to Ventilate", meaning: working together for a healthier living and working environment. Because fresh air may seem like a given, it is not a standard. It deserves our conscious attention.

The importance of ventilation

Research shows that the air inside homes and buildings is, on average, at least twice as polluted as the air outside. Sources include carbon dioxide (CO₂) from breathing, particulate matter from appliances and combustion processes, chemicals from cleaning products, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from furniture and (building) materials. Without proper ventilation, these substances accumulate unnoticed. This can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, difficulty concentrating, headaches, or respiratory problems. In the long term, poor air quality can even lead to chronic conditions, such as asthma and cardiovascular disease.

Buildings also suffer from inadequate ventilation. For example, excessive humidity can cause moisture spots and mold, which damages walls and materials and further degrade air quality. Good ventilation therefore not only ensures an optimal indoor climate but also extends the lifespan of homes and buildings.

Working together for healthy air

This year's theme emphasizes our shared responsibility for healthy air. Manufacturers, installers, building owners, policymakers, and users - they all play an important role in creating an optimal indoor climate. Together, we ensure healthy air in homes, schools, offices, industrial settings, and other work and living environments.

What can you do to ensure a sustainable, healthy, and comfortable indoor climate?

  • Choose mechanical ventilation, preferably an energy-efficient and demand-controlled system.

  • Use an air quality monitor to track air quality.

  • Regularly have the ventilation system inspected and maintained.

Effective ventilation requires a customized solution and offers many possibilities. Therefore, always seek advice from a ventilation specialist who understands the specific needs of your project.

A d8 with fresh air

To celebrate World Ventil8 Day, we invite you to a symbolic "date" with healthy indoor air. Get to know the air better, give it the attention it deserves, and discover how it contributes to a healthy and pleasant living environment. Even a small step can make a big difference.
