Grotius

Commissioned by J.P. van Eesteren and BESIX, Interduct completed the heat recovery installation for the Grotius project in The Hague. Despite the sheer size and complexity of this assignment plus the corona pandemic, we managed to keep everything on track. We are proud of that. Interduct was involved in the entire process; from manufacturing the parts to delivery.

Project Grotius

On the Grotiusplaats, east of The Hague Central Station, two residential towers of 100 and 120 metres soar above the surrounding buildings. That is (project) Grotius. These towers are not only a pleasant addition to the Hague skyline; with as many as 655 flats, they offer plenty of living space to anyone who wants to settle at the entrance of this green city by the sea. To ensure that the residents also enjoy fresh air indoors, J.P. van Eesteren and BESIX sought a partner with sufficient capacity and experience to take on the construction of the ventilation for this large, complex project. They chose Bemar.

Grotius enjoys clean air

We fitted the (smaller) rental and (larger) owner-occupied flats as well as the common and commercial areas with a high-quality ventilation system. Due to the great diversity of the types of space and usage, different installations and heat recovery units were used. All the units are connected to a large network of air ducts that runs throughout the entire building. The higher up the tower, the bigger the ducts. This is the result of the volume of air to be extracted and injected. Some ducts are a massive two metres wide. This ensures that residents and visitors of Grotius I and II can always count on an ideal indoor climate.

The power of collaboration

Project Grotius is perhaps the prime example of what we, working with our partners, can achieve. From the moment the clients approved the plan we had jointly developed, we took the entire process off their hands. Our manufacturing company Robé immediately started producing the (rectangular) ducts and accessories and delivering them on site in time for Bemar's fitters to keep on installing without interruption. They also provided the necessary chimneys and the roof and wall bushings. Then Bemar installed the Zehnder heat-exchanger units and advised on maintenance. The latter is carried out annually by our services and maintenance company, ComfortServices. Together, we created a sustainable, healthy and comfortable indoor climate in the 2 residential towers in The Hague.
